Buchteln recipe: First, rise the yeast in warm milk and sugar. Next, add yolks to melted butter, then combine with milk and stir until completely dissolved.
Add flour and knead thorough.
Cover with a dishcloth and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size.
Flatten the dough with a rolling pin and cut with a pastry blender.
Butter a cake pan well, melt butter and combine walnuts with sugar.
Bathe the doughs in the melted butter first, then the sugar-walnut mixture, then place in the cake pan.
Preheat the oven to 390 degrees F, cover the pan with foil and bake for 60 minutes. Remove the foil after 50 minutes.
While the dough is in the oven, prepare the vanilla sauce. Bring a pot of milk to a boil, add vanilla sugar when boiling. Combine flour, sugar and yolks in a different bowl, then add to the milk and cook until thick. (Not until set!)
When the Buchteln’s ready, pour with vanilla sauce and serve.
Good luck in making the Buchteln! Enjoy!
