Ingredients

Dough
1 tsp yeast
3 ½ fl oz milk
1 tsp sugar
10 ½ oz flour
7 oz butter
1 egg
3 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
For the top
1 egg

Steps

Step 1
Preparing the Butter scones is simple. First, activate the yeast in warm milk and one teaspoon of sugar.
Step 2
Mix together the butter and flour.
Step 3
Add the activated yeast and the egg to the flour. Knead it all together.
Step 4
Add a pinch of salt and sugar, knead again.
Step 5
Let it rise in a warm place for an hour.
Step 6
Flatten the dough as thin as possible and use a knife or fork, to create a pattern of crosses on top.
Step 7
Cut into circles with a mid-sized cookie cutter.
Step 8
Line them up in a pan lined with baking paper, brush their tops with an egg wash.
Step 9
Bake until golden at 360 degrees F.
